Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Telecommunications Engineering

Program Synopsis

Telecommunications engineering covers various areas ranging from basic circuit designing to strategic mass developments. The work of the telecommunications engineer, among other things, spans the design and oversight of installation of telecommunications equipment and facilities such as complex Electronic Switching Systems, to Copper Telephone facilities and Fiber Optics.

The objectives of the program – which is in-line with the mission of ACT , is to produce high calibre graduates in Electromechanical Engineering using internationally benchmarked curriculum. As such the Program is designed to meet the IEEE stipulations and the requirements.

The program is designed to provide our students with the knowledge and associated skills in the broad field of Electromechanical Engineering . Over the four year program a range of skills-based, generic subjects will be sustained in order to develop the student as a versatile graduate and as a ‘life-long learner’. Students on this program will acquire the basic experimental, design, and communication skills and be prepared for employment in a broad spectrum of Electrical and Electronic Engineering , or for continued study at the postgraduate level.

The concentration of this programme will be of interest to those who are academically oriented as well as those with professional goals such as employment with business entities, industrial or governmental agencies, requiring advanced knowledge in telecommunications, network theory and technology.

Entry Requirement

Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) or West African Senior Secondary School Certificate (WASSCE) or equivalent With an aggregate score of 24 or better in six subjects including passes in: Three Core Subjects (including Core English, and Core Mathematics) plus Three Electives.

For Engineering or Computer Science Programs, the Three electives should include Elective Mathematics and Elective Science (Physics, plus Chemistry or Biology).
